ChLCD, or cholesteric liquid crystal display, is a display technology that uses liquid crystals to create images that reflect ambient light. ChLCDs are bistable, meaning they can exist in two stable states: planar and focal conic. In the planar state, the liquid crystals are aligned and reflect specific wavelengths of light, creating a bright image. In the focal conic state, the liquid crystals are disordered and allow most light to pass through, creating a dark image.
